York County, VA Goes Live with Automated Speed Enforcement in School Zones

York County, Virginia has officially taken a major step forward in protecting students and improving traffic safety. As of Monday, February 2, 2026, Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) is now live in designated York County school zones.

The program is designed to address one of the most persistent safety challenges facing school communities: excessive speeding during active school zone hours. ASE technology monitors vehicles traveling 11 miles per hour or more over the posted school zone speed limit, operating only when school zone beacons are active and students are present.

A Data-Driven Approach to School Zone Safety

Blue Line Solutions conducted comprehensive pre-program speed studies across York County school zones. The data confirmed a clear and measurable safety concern, reinforcing the need for proactive, consistent enforcement during times when children are most vulnerable.

By using data to guide decision-making, York County is prioritizing prevention over reaction, focusing on slowing dangerous drivers before serious incidents occur.

Transparency, Fairness, and Local Control

As with all Blue Line Solutions programs, the York County ASE initiative is built on transparency and accountability. Each potential violation is reviewed by law enforcement prior to summons issuance, and the system operates in full compliance with Virginia state law. Enforcement is limited strictly to active school zone hours and clearly marked locations, ensuring drivers understand when and where reduced speeds apply.

No Cost to Taxpayers, Safety as the Priority

The ASE program is provided at no upfront cost to York County taxpayers. Program funding is supported through violator-paid summonses, allowing the County to improve safety without shifting financial burden to the community. Revenue generated through the program may be reinvested into future safety initiatives, further strengthening local traffic safety efforts.

A Shared Commitment to Protecting Students

“York County’s leadership has taken a proactive step to protect students, families, and educators by addressing dangerous driving behaviors before a tragedy occurs,” said Mark Hutchinson, Founder and CEO of Blue Line Solutions. “Automated Speed Enforcement is not about issuing citations. It is about slowing the drivers who pose the greatest risk and creating safer school environments for the entire community.”

Blue Line Solutions is proud to partner with York County in advancing safer school zones and supporting long-term traffic safety goals through data-driven, community-centered solutions.
