Wartburg Police Department Partners with Blue Line Solutions to Improve School Zone Safety

The Wartburg Police Department has partnered with Blue Line Solutions to implement Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) in school zones, bringing enhanced safety measures to areas surrounding Wartburg Central High School and Wartburg Elementary School.

Located just outside Knoxville and within the broader East Tennessee region, Wartburg’s commitment to safety reflects a growing priority among communities close to home.

Pre-program speed studies conducted along Knoxville Highway (SR 62) revealed concerning patterns of speeding during school hours.

At Wartburg Central High School:

• Nearly 30,000 vehicles traveled through the zone during the study
• Over 1,200 speeding violations were recorded
• More than 4% of drivers exceeded the speed limit by 11 MPH or more

At Wartburg Elementary School:

• Over 23,800 vehicles were recorded
• More than 1,500 speeding violations occurred
• Speeding rates exceeded 6% overall, with daily spikes above 7%

These numbers represent real risk in areas where children are present and vulnerable.

By implementing ASE, the Wartburg Police Department is taking a proactive step to reduce speeding, improve compliance, and create safer conditions for students and families in their school zones.
