FREDERICK COUNTY, VA - Frederick County, Virginia is reinforcing its commitment to protecting students, educators, and families with the launch of its Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) school zone safety program in partnership with Blue Line Solutions and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

The program’s warning period began February 11, 2026, with civil citations scheduled to begin March 13, 2026, following a community education phase designed to encourage safer driving behavior before enforcement begins.

This initiative reflects a growing understanding among community leaders that automated speed enforcement is not about issuing tickets, but about preventing tragedies and reducing dangerous speeding where children are most vulnerable.

A Safety Program Rooted in Prevention

Community leaders and public safety advocates have emphasized that school zone camera programs are designed to change behavior and protect lives, not punish drivers. Public discussions around the Frederick County program highlight the importance of proactive safety measures that encourage motorists to slow down and remain alert in areas where children are present.

Automated speed enforcement programs are widely recognized as effective tools for reducing dangerous speeding and improving roadway safety outcomes when paired with public education and transparent policies.

Key Program Milestones

Warning Period Began: February 11, 2026
Drivers exceeding the speed limit by 11 MPH or more receive mailed warning notices with no fines during this phase.

Civil citations will be issued following the warning period to reinforce safer driving behavior.

School Zone Focus:
The program operates only during active school zone hours when beacons are flashing and students are present.

Why Slowing Down Matters

Speed is one of the most significant factors influencing crash severity. Research consistently shows that lowering vehicle speeds dramatically improves survival rates for pedestrians, especially children.

Communities across the country are adopting automated enforcement as part of broader Vision Zero strategies aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities through data-driven safety programs.

A Community Partnership for Safer Roads

Frederick County’s program combines public education, clear signage, warning periods, and fair enforcement to create a transparent approach focused on behavior change.

“Programs like Frederick County’s demonstrate what happens when communities prioritize prevention,” said Mark Hutchinson, Founder and CEO of Blue Line Solutions. “When you combine education, transparency, and data-driven enforcement, you create safer environments for children and peace of mind for families.”

Striving for Zero

By implementing ASE, Frederick County joins a growing network of communities nationwide working to reduce dangerous speeding and protect vulnerable road users through proven safety strategies.

Blue Line Solutions is proud to support the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office in this important initiative and remains committed to helping communities nationwide build safer roadways through transparent, equitable traffic safety programs.
